Biographical Information

Ed MacGamwell played 4 games at first base for the Brooklyn Superbas in 1905. He was 27 years old at the time, on a team whose average age was 26. He hit .250 on a team whose average was .246, but made two errors in the field.

He also played 15 years in the minors.

His games were in the middle of April, and it is clear that Brooklyn was searching for a first baseman. Their first baseman from 1904, Pop Dillon, was gone, and they ended up trying six players at first base in 1905. Doc Gessler, an outfielder from the previous year with the Superbas, ended up winning the job and playing 107 games at first base in 1905. However, the Superbas also tried shortstop Charlie Babb, pitcher Fred Mitchell, 35-year-old rookie Ad Yale, and infielder Bob Hall. Of the six players who appeared at first base in 1905, only Gessler ever played in the majors leagues after 1905; the rest made their final appearances in 1905.
