Biographical Information[edit]
William "Ad" Yale played first base in four games for the 1905 Brooklyn Superbas. He was 35 years old at the time, far older than anyone else on the team that year.
The regular first baseman for Brooklyn in 1905 was Doc Gessler. In August 1905 the Superbas picked up Tim Jordan, who would become the regular first baseman for several years after that. Gessler was traded to the Chicago Cubs and would be part of their great 1906 team.
As for Yale, he had played for Bridgeport from 1898-05 and would continue to play professionally until age 44.
The book Muzzy Field mentions him on the 1896 Bristol Bells team. At that point he was already 26 years old, so he may have played in Bristol for years prior to that.
