Biographical Information[edit]

Ed Blankmeyer has been a college coach.

Blankmeyer hit .320 with 66 steals as a second baseman at Seton Hall University. He played in both the 1974 College World Series and 1975 College World Series and was MVP of the 1976 Atlantic Collegiate Baseball League. The Baltimore Orioles took him in the 15th round of the 1976 amateur draft. He went 3 for 20 for the '76 Pulaski Phillies.

Blankmeyer began his coaching career in California as a high school coach. He returned to the east as a graduate assistant coach in 1980 with Seton Hall. He stayed at Seton Hall until early 1996, first as an assistant coach before a promotion to associate head coach. In that role, he helped recruit Mo Vaughn, Craig Biggio, Matt Morris and John Valentin.

In early 1996, Blankmeyer became head coach of St. John's University and was named Big East Conference Coach of the Year his first season. He ran the St. John’s program for 24 years, notching an 829-500-44 record. He led the Johnnies to five Big East Tournament titles, six regular-season crowns and 11 NCAA Tournament titles, along with winning a Big East-best 347 conference games. Overall he was named the Big East Conference Coach of the Year eight times in those 24 years.

Blankmeyer resigned from St. John's in January 2020 to become manager of the Brooklyn Cyclones although the minor league season was canceled due to COVID-19. He did manage Brooklyn in 2021.
