Biographical Information[edit]

Dwight Taylor played four games in the majors with the Kansas City Royals in 1986 and had thirteen total seasons in pro ball. Perhaps most notably, he stole 95 bases with the Buffalo Bisons in 1983.

Dwight was born in Los Angeles, CA, a few weeks before Tony Gwynn was born in the same city. He attended John C. Fremont High School, where he was a couple of years older than another student, Eric Davis. Dwight was drafted in 1978, but instead went to the University of Arizona, which he attended at the same time as Terry Francona. He was then drafted in the seventh round of the 1981 Amateur Draft by the Cleveland Indians.

Taylor spent five years in the Indians organization, stealing around 300 bases and hitting over .300 once. Traded after the 1985 season, he came to the major leagues in April of 1986 with the Royals, before heading to the AAA Omaha Royals for most of 1986 and all of 1987. In 1986, he stole 67 bases with Omaha. He continued to play pro ball through 1983.

In July 1990, the Cleveland Indians sent him as the player to be named later in a deal that also sent Tommy Hinzo to the Atlanta Braves for Jeff Wetherby and Miguel Sabino.
