Donovan Antonia has played in the minors and has been on the Dutch national team.
He hit .318/.516/.545 with 8 walks and 9 runs in 8 games in the 2018 U15 Baseball World Cup, finishing in the top 10 in walks. As a catcher, he threw out 4 of 8 who tried to steal. [1] He was signed by Cincinnati Reds scouts Fermin Coronel and Trey Hendricks in August 2019. [2]
Antonia made his pro debut with the '21 ACL Reds, hitting .155/.268/.225 with 52 K in 110 AB, fielding .899 at 2B. Returning to the same team the next year, he hit .261/.377/.489 with 24 runs in 29 games. He split 2023 between the ACL Reds (11-for-26, 2 2B, 2 HR, 5 BB) and Daytona Tortugas (.213/.339/.319 in 24 G), playing mostly right field. The New York Mets took him in the AAA portion of the 2023 Rule V Draft. [3]
In 2024, he played for the FCL Mets (.169/.234/.268 in 22 G), Brooklyn Cyclones (7-for-33, 2 BB) and St. Lucie Mets (.143/.273/.161 in 20 G). He batted .273/.448/.455 for the Netherlands in the 2024 U23 Baseball World Cup, tying for 7th in steals (3). [4] He was with the Dutch team in the 2024 Premier 12 but did not get into a game. [5]
