Biographical Information

Dilmer Mejía has pitched in the minors and for the Nicaraguan national team.

He was signed by Atlanta Braves scout Marvin Throneberry in 2013. He split the summer between the DSL Braves (4-1, 1.68, .86 WHIP) and GCL Braves (1-0, 3.60). He was .05 from the top-10 in the Dominican Summer League in ERA and won the DSL Braves Pitcher of the Year. He fell to 0-3, 5.82 for the '15 GCL Braves but rebounded to 3-1, 3.06 for the same club in 2016.

The slender southpaw was 4-3 with a save and a 3.91 ERA for the 2017 Danville Braves. In 2018, he was with Danville (5-4, 2.87), the Rome Braves (0-1, 8 R, 7 ER in 8 2/3 IP) and the Florida Fire Frogs (0-2, 7.82 in 3 G). He tied for third in the Appalachian League in wins and was second in ERA, .06 behind Marcelo Martinez. That is as per MILB.com, which lists him with a 2.74 ERA, one fewer earned run and .13 ERA lower than the 2019 Baseball Almanac and Baseball-Register list. Their listing still puts him second to Martinez. He won Appalachian League Pitcher of the Year.

Mejía was 8-5 with a save and a 2.66 ERA for the 2019 Rome Braves, walking 24 in 118 1/3 innings. He was second in the South Atlantic League in ERA, .90 behind Seth Corry. He tied Ian Anderson and Tucker Davidson for 5th in the Braves chain in wins; two years later, those other two would pitch for the team in the World Series. Among Braves farmhands with 100+ innings, only Davidson had a better ERA. He won his third team Pitcher of the Year, following 2014 and 2018.

The El Sauce native pitched 7 shutout innings for Nicaragua in the 2020 U23 Pan American Tournament. After the 2020 minor league season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, he signed as a free agent with the Chicago White Sox. He started for Nicaragua against Puerto Rico in the 2020 Americas Olympic Qualifier (held in 2021 due to pandemic delays, but retaining the 2020 name). He had a solid first, retiring Ozzie Martínez, walking Iván DeJesús Jr., getting Noel Cuevas on a fly and fanning Kevin Luciano. With a 2-0 lead in the second, he had a rough time. He walked Rey Navarro, got Edwin Gómez on a fly and served up a tying homer to Jesmuel Valentín. Michael Arroyo walked, Luis Mateo singled and he again retired Martínez. A two-run double by DeJesús made it 4-2 and Kevin Gadea relieved, allowing one inherited runner to score. Nicaragua rallied to win, 7-6, so he avoided a loss. His 27.00 ERA was Nicaragua's highest, tying Sergio Palacio for 4th-highest in the tourney.

He split the summer of 2021 between the Winston-Salem Dash (0-1, 4 R in 1 1/3 IP), Kannapolis Cannon Ballers (0-1, 5.73 in 4 G) and ACL White Sox (0-1, 3.73 in 12 G), striking out 67 in 63 innings. He was back with Nicaragua for the 2021 U-23 Baseball World Cup, beating Germany.
