Biographical Information[edit]
Kevin Luciano has won Gold with the Puerto Rican national team.
Luciano hit .355/.446/.484 as a college junior and .400/.466/.588 as a senior. On a Puerto Rican squad at the 2019 Pan American Games loaded with long-time pros (including some major league veterans), he played a big role as the starting first baseman. He batted .263/.318/.526 with 5 runs and 5 RBI in 5 games while playing error-free defense. Against defending Gold Medal winner Canada, he doubled off Ryan Kellogg in the 2nd and scored the first run. He homered off Nicaragua's Elías Gutiérrez. He scored the game-winner against Colombia in the 8th. He scored twice in the 6-1 win over Canada in the Gold Medal Game; in the 4th, he got the 1st run when he doubled off Chris Leroux and came home on a double by Jorge Padilla. He tied for 7th in the event in RBI and tied for 6th in runs, in each case tied with former major leaguers; not bad for a guy who had never played pro ball.
