Biographical Information[edit]

Elías Gutiérrez has pitched for the Nicaraguan national team.

He debuted for Jinotega in 2015 (6.35 ERA in 7 G) and struggled as well in 2016 (0-2, 10.19). He was 4-7 with a save and a 7.38 ERA in 2017 then improved to 3-2, 4.21 in 2018. He began 2019 very well (8-2, 3.28) and made Nicaragua's squad for the 2019 Pan American Games as their only left-handed pitcher. [1] He got into two games, neither as a LOOGY. In the 6th against Gold Medal-bound Puerto Rico, he relieved Junior Téllez with the bases loaded, two outs and a 3-1 lead. He allowed a two-run double to Jeffrey Domínguez and finished off the rest of the game (3 1/3 IP, 4 other hits, 2 R, 2 ER, BB, 2 K), a Kevin Luciano two-run homer doing the damage. His other outing came against Silver Medal-bound Canada. Relieving Elvin García in the 2nd with a 4-0 deficit, one on and only one out, he retired Eric Wood and Connor Panas, the 4-5 hitters. He pitched a shutout 3rd, allowed one in the 4th, tossed a shutout 5th and allowed one in the 6th (the runner scoring after Téllez took over). His 2 runs in 4 were much better than the 8 runs in 2 1/3 IP allowed by his staffmates in the mercy rule loss. For the event, the lefty reliever led Nicaragua in IP (1 1/3 ahead of Gustavo Martínez, Wilton López and Jorge Bucardo. [2]
