Biographical Informaion[edit]

The son of Jose Valentin and nephew of Javier Valentín, shortstop Jesmuel Valentin was selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the supplemental first round of the 2012 amateur draft with the 51st overall pick. He soon signed and made his pro debut with the AZL Dodgers on June 21st, going 1-for-4 with a double, an RBI, and a run scored.

He was traded to the Philadelphia Phillies on August 16, 2014 as one of the players to be named later in the trade for P Roberto Hernandez. He missed the first half of the 2015 season after being placed on the restricted list following a domestic violence incident involving his wife.

He made his major league debut with the Phils on April 29, 2018. He had been called up that day when SS J.P. Crawford was placed on the disabled list and in his debut struck out as a pinch-hitter against Jesse Biddle of the Atlanta Braves in the 9th inning of a 10-1 loss.
