Biographical Information[edit]
Michael Arroyo has played in the minors and for the Puerto Rican national team.
The Kansas City Royals took him in the 26th round of the 2014 amateur draft; the scout was Fausto Morel. [1] He hit .235/.358/.324 for the '15 AZL Royals and was plunked by eight pitches, tying Jordan Serena and Josh Magee for third in the Arizona League. The next year, he batted .203/.268/.405 with 17 RBI in 23 games for the Burlington Royals, backing up Nate Esposito at catcher.
He split 2017 between Burlington (0 for 22, BB, 12 K) and the AZL Royals (1 for 12, 2 RBI, 6 K) for a rough closing note; he had hit .182/.268/.301 in 60 minor league games, driving in 28. He fielded .988 at catcher and caught 33% of would-be base-stealers. He was on the roster for Puerto Rico for the 2020 Americas Olympic Qualifier in March 2020 before it was delayed over a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. [2] When the event was held in '21, he was still on the team. In the opener, he pinch-hit for Yomar Cruz in the 9th and struck out in a 5-2 loss to the Dominican national team. Their next game, he started at catcher, batting 8th, against Nicaragua. He drew a second-inning walk from Dilmer Mejia and scored on a double by Iván DeJesús Jr. but was 0 for 3 the rest of the day, before being replaced by Rubén Castro. Puerto Rico did not make the Tokyo Olympics. [3]
