Biographical Information[edit]
The son of Dickie Thon, infielder Dickie Joe Thon (AKA Joe Thon) was selected by the Toronto Blue Jays in the fifth round of the 2010 amateur draft. Thon played in the Blue Jays minor league system from 2011-2016, never rising above High A ball. In 2016 he reached AA for the first time with the Springfield Cardinals in the St. Louis Cardinals minor league system. The Cardinals released him in July and he finished the year with the Sugar Land Skeeters of the independent Atlantic League. In his seven minor league seasons, Thon hit .243 with an OBP of .318 and a slugging percentage of .356 while appearing in 502 games. Thon also spent several offseasons playing in the Roberto Clemente Professional Baseball League.
In 2019, Thon became a student at the University of Houston studying business administration. He didn't abandon baseball, however, as he spent fall 2019 as a student assistant coach. This quickly led to a volunteer assistant coach position in 2020 where he remained until the Houston Astros hired him in April 2021 to serve as the development coach for the Fayetteville Woodpeckers. He then moved over to the manager's chair for the Woodpeckers in 2022 and Corpus Christi Hooks in 2023-2024.
He is also related to Frankie Thon, Fred Thon, Freddie Thon and Frankie Thon Jr.
