Biographical Information[edit]

Denny Wiseman pitched in the St. Louis Cardinals system from 1989 to 1993 and in independent ball from 1994 to 1995. He was taken by St. Louis in the 30th round of the 1989 amateur draft, a few picks ahead of infielder Joe Randa.

He began his career by going 4-3 with a 2.65 ERA in 12 starts for the Johnson City Cardinals in 1989 and 13-6 with a 2.66 ERA in 27 starts between the Springfield Cardinals and St. Petersburg Cardinals in 1990. He reached Double-A for the first time in 1991, falling to 6-15 with a 4.16 ERA in 26 starts for the Arkansas Travelers. He led the Texas League in losses, one ahead of John Ericks and David Perez. Despite improving to 9 wins and a 2.90 ERA in 24 starts for Arkansas in 1992, he again led the league in losses, tying Harold Allen with 12. He reached Triple-A for the first time in 1993, going 7-9 with a 5.06 ERA in 33 games (13 starts) for the Louisville Redbirds; he was 8-10, 4.60 overall, as he also made a couple starts for St. Petersburg. Moving to indy ball in 1994, he went 4-3, 3.88 in 10 starts for the Duluth-Superior Dukes in 1994 and 4-6, 5.74 in 18 starts for the same club in 1995 to wrap up his career.

Overall, Wiseman went 48-55 with a 3.73 ERA in 152 games (132 starts) over 7 seasons. In 844 1/3 innings, he allowed 923 hits and 182 walks, while striking out 449 batters.
