Biographical Information[edit]

Outfielder/catcher Darren Bush played three seasons in the independent Frontier League before spending 1999 and 2000 in the San Diego Padres farm system. He then played in the Philadelphia Phillies organization in 2001. Back in the independent circuits in 2002, he played his final year of pro ball as a player/coach with the Yuba-Sutter Gold Sox of the Western Baseball League.

After retiring as a player, Bush managed two seasons in the independent Northeast League. He spent 2005 and 2006 as hitting coach for the Stockton Ports and became the club's skipper in 2007. After leading the club to a California League crown in 2008, he moved up to the Midland Rockhounds the next summer and captured the Texas League championship. He took over as skipper of the Sacramento River Cats in 2011. In six years managing in the A's system, Bush compiled a 462-386 (.545) record.

In 2013, he moved to the parent Oakland Athletics as bullpen coach, replacing Rick Rodriguez. In 2015, he was promoted to hitting coach, replacing Chili Davis and stayed until the end of the 2021 season. In 2022, he moved over to third base coach with additional responsibilities as a run prevention coach. Bush moved to bench coach in 2023 where he remained through 2025. In addition, Bush was named the organization's Director of Hitting in 2024 which he also continued in 2025.
