Darold Brown reached AA as a player then became a scout.

Braves

Brown was taken by the Houston Astros in the 33th round of the 1992 amateur draft, one pick after Lou Lucca. He was then picked by the Atlanta Braves in the 23rd round of the 1993 amateur draft. With the 1993 Danville Braves, he was 1-0 with a 1.42 ERA in 11 games, walking 19 and fanning 19 in 19 innings. With the Idaho Falls Braves in 1994, he posted a 4-7, 3.68 record. He tied for third in the Pioneer League in losses, one behind Tom Davey and Chris Spenrath and was 9th in ERA (between Brian Smith and Dennys Reyes). He split 1995 between the Eugene Emeralds (0-3, 4.24) and Macon Braves (3-1, 5 Sv, 3.29 in 31 G, 55 K, 32 BB in 54 2/3 IP).

Cubs

Brown then moved to the Chicago Cubs system. In 1996, he was 4-4 with four saves and a 2.73 ERA in 35 games pitched for the Daytona Cubs; only Brandon Hammack had a better ERA among Daytona's regular relievers. On July 28, he teamed with Kerry Wood and Jairo Diaz on a 5-1 no-hitter, finishing the 9th. On August 24, he teamed with Wood and Hammack on a 3-0 no-no against the Vero Beach Dodgers. He split 1997 between Daytona (2-3, Sv, 2.79 in 29 G) and the Orlando Rays (4.20 ERA in 18 G); control remained an issue as he walked 38 in 68 2/3 IP. He was 10th in the Cubs chain in games pitched. He split 1998 between the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx (4 R in 8 IP) and AZL Cubs (0 R in 1 IP), presumably missing time with injury. He did not pitch in 1999.

Independent Leagues

Darold went 5-7 with a 4.83 ERA for the 2000 Solano Steelheads, walking 66 in 98 2/3 innings. He was tied for fourth in the Western Baseball League and led the league in walks (two more than the runner-up). With the 2001 Steelheads, he had a 3.38 ERA in 12 games.

He finished his playing career 19-25 with 10 saves and a 3.65 ERA in 177 games (36 starts). In 404 innings, he allowed 362 hits and 229 walks while fanning 347.

Scouting

Brown was a scout for the Arizona Diamondbacks (2007-2010) and Toronto Blue Jays (2010- ). He signed Kevin Eichhorn and Bradin Hagens for the Diamondbacks.
