Biographical Information[edit]

Darío Sarduy has pitched in Cuba and Japan and for the Cuban national team.

He was 1-3 with a 4.88 ERA for Villa Clara in the 2023 Serie Nacional, his debut in his homeland. He then went to the Softbank Hawks in Japan for 2024 but did not pitch for their big club. [1] He had a 6-1 record with a 2.84 ERA in 20 appearances in the minor league, and he struck out 44 in 57 innings while walking 27. He was the youngest player in the 2024 Premier 12. [2] He made two appearances for Cuba, getting the start against Australia. He retired Travis Bazzana, the top pick in the 2024 amateur draft, but allowed singles to Aaron Whitefield, Robbie Glendinning and Rixon Wingrove. He struck out Tim Kennelly, who had begun his pro career before Sarduy was even born, but allowed a 4th hit, a RBI single to Rixon Wingrove. Andy Vargas took over and Cuba rallied so he did not get the loss. He also pitched in relief against Japan, replacing Frank Medina with one out in the 5th, a 4-1 deficit and two on. He walked Sosuke Genda and Keita Sano hit a sacrifice fly before he retired Toshiya Sato. Liván Moinelo took over in the 6th. Only Medina finished with a higher ERA for Cuba. [3]
