Biographical Information[edit]

Daniel Duran is one of the few Ecuador natives to play professionally in the US.

Duran came to the US for junior college. He hit .364 as a freshman and .302 as a sophomore. Transferring to Cal State LA, he batted .403 in 2011 before an injury ended his season. He was better yet as a senior (.451/.533/.737, 47 R, 44 RBI in 48 G). The Tampa Bay Rays took him in the 24th round of the 2012 amateur draft. He hit .238/.273/.286 for the Princeton Rays and fielded only .833 at third base. He was just the 8th Ecuadorian player in the minor leagues, following Alvaro Cañarte, Alfredo Molina, Oscar Villamar, Juan Mendoza, Daniel Yerovi, Alfredo Venegas and Jorge Araiza (Araiza grew up in California, though).
