Biographical information

The son of Lenny Dykstra and brother of Luke Dykstra, Cutter Dykstra began his pro career in 2008.

Dykstra hit .471 with a 1320 OPS as a high school senior. The Milwaukee Brewers took him 54th overall in the 2008 amateur draft; the second-round pick was compensation for the loss of Scott Linebrink to free agency. Dykstra, who had a UCLA scholarship in line, signed and began his minor league career with the Helena Brewers. On June 17, he made his pro debut, going 0 for 4 with 3 strikeouts. He hit .271 in 48 games between Helena and the AZL Brewers, with 9 doubles and 5 homers while playing the outfield. In 2009, he started the season in the outfield for the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers of the Midwest League, putting up a .212 average 29 games, then was sent down to Helena and moved to second base when the short-season Pioneer League began play, and hit .244 in 61 games. He spent all of 2010 at Wisconsin, hitting .312/.416/.411 in 100 games, mainly at third base.

Dykstra was traded to the Washington Nationals on March 27, 2011, in return for CF Nyjer Morgan. He was assigned to the Potomac Nationals of the Class-A Carolina League. He had a major setback that year, hitting only .212/.265/.265 in 94 games. He went back to a lowe level in 2012 and had a good season with the Hagerstown Suns of the South Atlantic League, where he hit .291/.366/.408 in 110 games, with 32 stolen bases in 35 attempts. It was quite a solid performance, but he was in effect repeating that level, and was already 23 - old for the league, making the 2013 season a make-or-break one for him.

On January 28, 2013, he announced his engagement to actress Jamie-Lynn Sigler, best known for her role in the television series The Sopranos, in which she played the mafia boss's daughter.
