Biographical Information[edit]

Infielder Luke Dykstra is the son of former major league outfielder Lenny Dykstra and the brother of minor league Cutter Dykstra.

He was selected by the Atlanta Braves in the 7th round of the 2014 amateur draft (the scout was Steve Leavitt) and began his professional career that year with the GCL Braves. He hit .262 in 44 games, scoring 39 runs. In 2015, he played 32 games for the Danville Braves of the Appalachian League, hitting .298, and 32 with the Rome Braves of the South Atlantic League, where he hit .348. His combined batting line was an excellent .318/.353/.422 in 58 games, with 27 runs and 22 RBIs. In 2016, he spent the entire season with Rome, where he hit .304 in 81 games. On December 1st of that year he was traded to the St. Louis Cardinals alongside young pitcher Chris Ellis and John Gant in return for major league starter Jaime Garcia.
