Biographical Information[edit]

Cristofer Ogando has pitched for the Dominican national team before making his major league debut with the Tampa Bay Rays in 2022.

Ogando was with the Miami Marlins' DSL Marlins team in 2013, giving up 9 hits, 6 walks and 9 runs (6 earned) in 5 1/3 IP. Five years later, he got another look, this time from the Arizona Diamondbacks. He dazzled with the DSL Diamondbacks 1 (8 H, 26 K, 2 UER, 0 ER in 23 1/3 IP; 3-1, 2 Sv) and moved up to the Missoula Osprey (1 R in 1 IP) and Hillsboro Hops (3.86 ERA; 17 K in 9 1/3 IP). That impressed the Tampa Bay Rays, who took him in the minor league portion of the 2018 Rule 5 Draft.

In 2019, he was effective with the Bowling Green Hot Rods (3-2, 6 Sv, 2.61 in 31 G) and Charlotte Stone Crabs (2 Sv, 2.70 in 7 G). He fanned 70 in 61 2/3 IP and allowed a .183 average but walked 34 as the lone drawback. He then was with the Dominican squad for the 2019 Premier 12. In his sole appearance, he relieved Henry Henry in the 5th inning of a 14-4 win over the Netherlands. He walked Yurendell de Caster but fanned Hendrik Clementina then retired Chadwick Tromp and Ademar Rifaela to end the inning. Samuel Adames replaced him in the 6th. It was his lone outing in the event.

The 2020 minor league season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He split 2021 between Bowling Green (0-1, 8.31 in 9 G), the Montgomery Biscuits (5-2, 3.68, 52 K in 36 2/3 IP) and Durham Bulls (1 R in 1 2/3 IP). He opened 2022 with Durham and was 1-1 with 2 saves and a 3.03 ERA. The 28-year-old then got called up and made his MLB debut on July 3rd against the Toronto Blue Jays. Relieving Shane Baz in the 7th with a 7-1 lead, he walked George Springer then retired Bo Bichette, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (K) and Teoscar Hernández in order. In the 8th, he allowed a Lourdes Gurriel Jr. double then retired Raimel Tapia, Matt Chapman (his fly scoring Gurriel) and Gabriel Moreno. Shawn Armstrong relieved him in the 9th.
