Biographical Information[edit]
Cristian Pérez has played as high as AAA and has been on the Venezuelan national team.
He was signed by Kansas City Royals scout Richard Castro in September 2015. [1] He hit .251/.349/.291 for the 2016 DSL Royals, fielding .966 as their main shortstop. Coming stateside with the 2017 AZL Royals, he produced at a .270/.327/.362 clip and fielded .959 at short. He led Arizona League shortstops in fielding percentage, putouts (69), assists (162) and double plays (32). [2] Moving up to a full-season league, he hit .278/.306/.350 for the 2018 Lexington Legends, while fielding .962 at SS.
With the 2019 Wilmington Blue Rocks, his batting line fell to .252/.290/.285, fielding .977. He led Carolina League shortstops in fielding percentage, assists (306) and double plays (74). [3] He was then traded to the New York Yankees for Chance Adams. [4] The 2020 minor league season was wiped out by the COVID-19 pandemic. He began 2021 with the Hudson Valley Renegades, going 2 for 10 with a walk and a double. After a promotion to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, he went to play for Venezuela in the Final Olympic Qualifier. His lone appearance came late in a rout of the Dutch national team, pinch-hitting for Engelb Vielma. He was hit by a pitch from Arij Fransen to force in Gabriel Rincones. Staying in at short, he handled no chances. [5] He wound up playing 49 games that summer for the RailRiders, batting .220/.304/.280 but going 5-for-5 in steal attempts in 47 games. He also played nine games for the Somerset Patriots (6 for 28, 2B, 2 BB, HBP).
