Biographical Information

Craig Landis is a player agent with clients including Paul Konerko, Randy Winn, Jay Payton, Aaron Rowand and Mike Trout. He is the son of former big league outfielder Jim Landis and played six seasons in the minor leagues, including three at AAA.

Landis was drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the 1st round of the 1977 amateur draft. He debuted that year with the Great Falls Giants and hit .336/~.422/.434. He was 6th in the high-scoring Pioneer League in average, right behind Mitch Webster and three spots ahead of Brian Harper. Landis stole 12 bases in 16 tries. A shortstop in high school, he played primarily third base, but fielded just .796 there.

In 1978, Craig batted .283/~.396/.385 for the Cedar Rapids Giants. He stole 20 bases in 23 attempts, scored 79 runs and was one hit-by-pitch behind Midwest League leader Randy Bass with 9. His 74 walks put him in the MWL's top 10. He was moved to the outfield that year and fared well.

Landis recorded 16 outfield assists for the 1979 Shreveport Captains and hit .303/~.403/.424 with 13 stolen bases in 16 attempts. With the 1980 Phoenix Giants, Craig batted .282/~.386/.370 with 15 steals in 21 tries in his first AAA season. The 21-year-old prospect was hit by 13 pitches, most in the Pacific Coast League. He also led outfielders in double plays (5).

In December of 1980, Landis was traded with John Montefusco to the Atlanta Braves for Doyle Alexander.

In 1981, Craig struggled a bit with the Richmond Braves, producing at a .238/~.374/.360 clip in 83 games.

Landis hit a career-high 15 home runs in 1982. For Richmond, he hit .211/~.318/.439 in 24 games. He spent most of the year with the Savannah Braves, batting .278/~.417/.450 in 89 contests.
