Biographical Information[edit]

Connar O'Gorman has played in Australia, the USA and Germany as well as for the New Zealand national team

O'Gorman came to the US for junior college and hit .217 in 2012 but improved to .337 with a .442 slugging percentage in 2013. That winter, he played for the Brisbane Bandits, going 2 for 16 with 3 walks and a run in the 2013-2014 Australian Baseball League; he backed up Brad Dutton and Andrew Campbell at second base. He signed with the Amarillo Sox of the independent leagues and was 3 for 27 with a walk in 2014, backing up former AAA player Jeff Farnham at catcher. He was 1 for 6 with a walk and a run for the Adelaide Bite in the 2014-2015 ABL.

He signed with Germany's Hamburg Stealers for 2015, going 6 for 32 with a double and two walks, backing up Brett Rosen (a member of the British national team) at catcher. He made major strides in the winter, becoming Adelaide's starting backstop and producing at a .246/.302/.398 clip in 2015-2016. He then was the starting catcher for New Zealand in the 2017 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers ahead of Beau Bishop, who had played in the affiliated US minors. O'Gorman did well, going 3 for 9 with two doubles, three walks and three runs. He tied for the team lead in walks and runs; only Boss Moanaroa and Moko Moanaroa had a better OPS or slugging for the Diamondblacks. He spent the summer with the Kagawa Olive Guyners of the Shikoku Island League.

O'Gorman was only 3 for 29 for Adelaide in 2017-2018, losing his starting job as Isaias Quiroz and Bas Nooij did the catching. He next surfaced in the 2022 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers, now backing up Bishop behind the dish. In their opening loss to Brazil, he replaced Bishop late and singled off Igor Kimura. Their other game, he played DH and hit 6th but was 0 for 3 against Argentina's Federico Robles.
