Biographical Information[edit]

Cody Gabella is the son of longtime minor league manager Jim Gabella.

He was taken by the Atlanta Braves in the 50th round of the 2010 amateur draft out of high school. Going on to junior college, he was picked by the San Diego Padres in the 43rd round of the 2011 amateur draft; Lane Decker was the scout. Gabella hit .169/.279/.186 as a part-time second baseman for the 2012 AZL Padres. In 2013, he bounced between the AZL Padres (.200/.323/.236 in 18 G), Eugene Emeralds (0 for 10) and Lake Elsinore Storm (1 for 3). He finished his pro career with a .173/.281/.197 batting line, 11 runs and 12 RBI in 47 games, with 54 K in 127 AB. He fielded .944 in 33 games at 2B, .889 in 8 at SS and 1.000 in 7 at 1B. He pitched 1/3 of an inning, fanning one and walking one.

He was a player/coach for the 2015 Watertown Bucks before joining the St. Louis Cardinals organization. Gabella was hitting coach for the GCL Cardinals in 2016-2017, Johnson City Cardinals in 2018 and State College Spikes in 2019. He was promoted to the Peoria Chiefs in 2020, but the minor league season was cancelled due to COVID-19.

In 2021 Gabella served as the development coach for the Johnson City Doughboys in the newly independent Appalachian League. He joined the Atlanta Braves organization in 2022 and managed the FCL Braves. Gabella moved up a level in 2023 and managed with the Augusta GreenJackets.
