Biographical Information[edit]

Cody Forsythe pitched in the minors and for Team USA.

He had a 13-1, 0.70 record as a high school senior and also played soccer in high school. [1] He was 2-2 with a 7.88 ERA as a freshman. [2] He improved to 8-5, 2.35 as a sophomore, walking only 11 in 103 1/3 IP. He tied for sixth in the Missouri Valley Conference in wins and was third in ERA. [3] He was named All-Conference as a pitcher.

In 2012, he was 5-4 with a 3.10 ERA and became the first SIU pitcher to reach 100+ innings in back-to-back seasons. [4] He had a 4-5, 3.03 record in '13. The Philadelphia Phillies took him in the 25th round of the 2013 amateur draft; the scout was David Seifert. [5] He split the summer between the GCL Phillies (3-0, 2 Sv, 2.38 in 18 G) and Clearwater Threshers (0 R in 1 IP).

Forsythe split 2014 between Clearwater (2-3, 3 Sv, 2.27 in 22 G, 47 K in 35 2/3 IP) and the Lakewood BlueClaws (3-2, 9 Sv, 2.45 in 23 G). He tied Tyler Knigge and Jeremy Horst for 6th in the Phils chain in games pitched and tied Ken Giles for third in saves. In 2015, he was 3-2 with a 3.65 ERA for the 2015 Threshers. He pitched one game for Team USA when they finished second in the 2015 Premier 12. Relieving Cody Satterwhite in the 8th with a 10-2 deficit against Japan, he allowed a single to Shogo Akiyama, retired Kenta Imamiya and walked Tetsuto Yamada. The Kentucky native moved to the independent leagues in 2016, going 11-5 with a 4.38 ERA for the Sioux City Explorers, tying for fourth in the American Association in wins. He faded to 6-8, 5.45 the next year for Sioux City to end his pro career. He then returned to SIU as an assistant coach in 2018. [7]
