History, Comments, Contributions[edit]

Owned by Al Johnson, the Infants were the representatives of the city of Cleveland in the Players League. The was formed on November 7, 1889 when many of the players left the Cleveland Spiders due to the unhappiness of their contracts. The team posted a 55-75-1 record while the Spiders posted an even worse record of 44-88-4. The two clubs would merge on October 20th. Of the members of the Infants team, only 2 would go onto become managers: Larry Twitchell with the Milwaukee Brewers and Jimmy McAleer would become the first manager of what is now the Cleveland Indians. Manager Patsy Tebeau would become manager of the Spiders during the 1891 season.
