Biographical Information[edit]

Catcher Clayton McCullough was drafted out of high school in the 47th round of the 1998 Amateur Draft by the Seattle Mariners but opted to attend college instead. He spent one year at Vanderbilt University before transferring to East Carolina University. In 2002 the Cleveland Indians drafted him in the 22nd round and he played in their minor league system from 2002-2005. He reached AAA for one game in his final season. McCullough's batting line for his minor league career was a BA of .197, an OBP of .325, and a slugging percentage of .230.

McCullough started his coaching career as a volunteer assistant coach with East Carolina in 2006 while completely his undergraduate degree in communications. It was a busy year as he also served as the hitting coach for the Pulaski Blue Jays and as an interim bullpen catcher with the Toronto Blue Jays. McCullough spent the next several years managing in the lower levels of the Blue Jays' developmental system. He had a chance to broaden his horizons in the winter of 2012/2013 as he journeyed to Australia to work as a coach for the Canberra Cavalry. In 2014 he was promoted to the position of Minor League Coordinator of Instruction which he held for one year.

In 2015, the Los Angeles Dodgers hired McCullough as their Minor League Field Coordinator. He stayed in this role through the 2020 season. In 2021 he joined the major league club for the first time as their first base coach where he stayed through the 2024 season. After the 2021 season McCullough interviewed for the New York Mets managerial position which ultimately went to Buck Showalter. Following the Dodgers' win in the 2024 World Series, stories emerged that McCullough would be hired by the Florida Marlins to be their new manager in 2025.

His father Howard McCullough was a long-time scout.
