Biographical Information

Chu-Chien Hsu pitched in the Chinese Professional Baseball League for 5 years.

Hsu was with Taiwan for the 1999 Intercontinental Cup, going 0-1 with a 2.78 ERA as the country's second-most used hurler (in terms of innings pitched). He turned pro in 2001 with the Taichung Agan, going 4-10 with a lofty 7.34 ERA and 2.00 WHIP. In 2002, he went 7-2 with a save and a 2.64 ERA for the Agan. He then served in the military in 2003. The Taiwan Major League folded in the interim and Hsu found himself with the Macoto Cobras.

In 2004, Hsu was 0-5 with a 8.63 ERA and 2.04 WHIP for Macoto. He improved to 11-7, 3.18 in 2005. He pitched 9 innings with 3 runs allowed in the 2005 Taiwan Series, and the Cobras were swept by the Sinon Bulls. Hsu was named the CPBL Most Improved Player Award that year. Hsu made Taiwan's club for the 2006 World Baseball Classic, but gave up 3 runs in one inning (on a 3-run shot by Hitoshi Tamura in his start against the Japanese national team). Hsu was 3-2, 3.00 in the 2006 CPBL, then was 2-6 with three saves and a 3.42 ERA in 2007. He was 1-0 with a save and a 3.00 ERA in five games for the dMedia T-Rex in 2008. When the T-Rex folded due to a gambling scandal, Hsu was unable to catch on with one of the four remaining CPBL clubs. He accused them of blackballing him due to suspected gambling.

Hsu was with Taiwan for the 2009 World Port Tournament, going 1-1 with a 3.00 ERA. He then pitched for Taiwan in the 2009 Baseball World Cup, but he allowed 8 runs in 9 innings. Hsu also represented Taiwan in the 2009 Asian Championship and 2010 Haarlem Baseball Week.

Overall, Hsu was 17-20 with a 4.48 ERA, struck out 327 and pitched 436 1/3 innings in 7 seasons in the CPBL and TML.

Hsu throws a slider, curveball, forkball, changeup, sinker, cutter and fastball (tops out at 94 mph).
