Biographical Information[edit]

Chris James was signed as a free agent by the Philadelphia Phillies and scout Doug Gassaway in October 1981.

He hit his first pinch hit home run on July 27, 1987. On August 8th that year, he experienced his first five-RBI game. Even better, Chris James had a nine-RBI game on May 4, 1991, which set a franchise record for the Cleveland Indians. His feat was only matched on June 9, 2014, when Lonnie Chisenhall also collected 9 RBIs in a game for the Indians.

He was involved in a couple of big trades, first going from Philadelphia to the San Diego Padres in the middle of the 1989 season in return for John Kruk and Randy Ready, and then being traded after the season by the Padres to the Indians alongside C Sandy Alomar Jr. and Carlos Baerga in return for Joe Carter.

His brother Craig [1] was half of the "DickerJames" rushing combination at Southern Methodist University, with Eric Dickerson, and played in the NFL with the New England Patriots, and before that in the USFL. In 1987 and 1988, it was noted that Chris had more homers than Craig had rushing yards.
