Biographical Information[edit]
Chih-Hong Chen has played in the Chinese Professional Baseball League.
Chen played in the 2005 Asian Championship and 2005 Baseball World Cup. In the latter event, he was 2 for 6 with a triple. At catcher, he threw out the only player who tried to steal but also made one error while backing up Yi-Wei Lee. Chen made his pro debut in the 2006 CPBL with the Brother Elephants, going 8 for 65 with a double, triple and five walks. He hit .243/.287/.335 in 2007. On August 1 of that year, he hit his first home run, off Pat Ahearne. In 2008, the 29-year-old dazzled in limited time, going 21 for 53 with 4 doubles and 7 walks. He also pitched in three games, allowing three runs in three innings. He peaked at 88.8 mph on the radar gun and also threw a slider, cutter and sinker.
Starting at catcher for the 2010 Elephants, Chen struggled at .215/.260/.344 while fielding .979. In 2011, his offensive numbers were relatively stable - .215/.292/.270 - but his fielding percentage improved to .994. He won the Gold Glove that year.
