Biographical Information[edit]

Chia-Kai Liu played in the CPBL. His father is former CPBL manager Rong-Hua Liu.

Liu represented Taiwan in the 2012 World Junior Championship, hitting .294/.400/.294 as a RF/DH. The EDA Rhinos selected him in the 7th round of the 2016 CPBL Draft, and he was 6-for-12 in the minors in 2016. Liu hit .183/.258/.300 there in 2017, and he improved to .220/.264/.297 in 2018. He was released after the '18 season, and he became a pitcher. The Wei Chuan Dragons signed him when they were founded in 2020, and Liu was 9-1 with a 2.58 ERA and 14 saves in the minors. He led the minors in wins, ranking 2nd in games (6 behind Wei-Cheng Lu) and 3rd in holds (5 behind Tsung-Ju Yu).

The Kaohsiung native pitched well in the big club in 2021, and he notched 3 holds with a 2.61 ERA in 25 games. However, Liu was mainly placed in the minors in 2022, and he collected 8 holds with a 2.25 ERA in 26 games. He had a 3.91 ERA in 37 games with 8 holds in the minors in 2023, but he only pitched 2 games with the big club. Liu was the all-time holds leader in the minors as of 2023.

Liu's repertoire includes a fastball (peak 91.3 mph), changeup and slider.
