Biographical Information[edit]

Chi-Wei Lin pitched in the CPBL for 11 years.

Lin was picked in the 3rd round of the 2006 CPBL Draft by the Sinon Bulls. He made his CPBL debut in 2008, going 9-8 with 5 saves and a 3.90 ERA. He tied for 5th in the league in losses, tied Cory Bailey and Danny Core for 6th in wins, ranked 3rd in strikeouts (109, behind Fu-Te Ni and Ryokan Kobayashi) and was 12th in ERA. That earned him the CPBL Rookie of the Year. He missed 2009 due to a knee surgery. In 2010, he returned to go 10-5 with a 3.23 ERA. He ranked among the leaders in wins (tied for 7th with Chris Mason and Ching-Ming Wang) and strikeouts (91, 7th). Lin was selected into the 2010 CPBL All-Star Game, and he pitched 1 1/3 shutout innings. He pitched 1 1/3 innings with 2 runs allowed as a reliever in the 2010 Taiwan Series, and the Bulls were swept by the Brother Elephants.

In 2011, the little lefty fell to 3-12, 4.35. He was still high in the strikeout leaders (114, 3rd behind Orlando Román and Ken Ray) but he was second in losses, two behind Ying-Chieh Lin. Lin struggled even more a year later at 5-14, 5.16 with a 1.55 WHIP. He had the worst ERA and WHIP among league qualifiers, led in losses (2 more than Jim Magrane), led in wild pitches (13), was 5th in strikeouts (between Yu-Ching Lin and Magrane) and tied for second in walks (56, trailing Matt DeSalvo). He still attended the 2012 CPBL All-Star Game, and he pitched a shutout inning. That was his last All-Star appearance.

Lin's performance worsened in 2013 as his ERA was 5.60 in 19 games, and he was placed in the minors mainly in the 2014 season. He only pitched 6 games with a 7.62 ERA with the big club, then he was released. The Uni-President Lions picked him up, and he had a 6.28 ERA in 21 games in 2015. His ERA rose to 8.46 in 2016, and he allowed 18 runs in 15 2/3 innings in 2017. Lin never had a productive season for the Lions as his ERA was 6.97 in 2018, then he pitched 44 games with a 5.23 ERA in 2019. He recorded a 5.40 ERA in 26 games in 2020, then he didn't have any appearances with the big club in 2021. The Lions released him, and Lin's professional career ended.

Overall, Lin was 32-48 with a 4.89 ERA, struck out 617 and pitched 693 1/3 innings in 11 seasons in the CPBL. As of 2023, he ranked 21th in strikeouts in the CPBL, between Ching-Ming Wang and Yu-Chieh Shen.

Lin throws a sinker, curveball, changeup, forkball and fastball (peak 94 mph).
