Biographical information

Second baseman Jimmy Garrett is the brother of Adrian Garrett and Wayne Garrett and uncle of Jason Garrett and played five years in the minors, hitting no home runs but once batting .300. Called "Charlie" by his family, he is known as "Jimmy" in contemporary baseball sources. All three Garrett brothers were signed by Milwaukee Braves scout and former Major League manager Zack Taylor.

Jimmy began his professional career in 1963 with the Waycross Braves, hitting .276 with 10 RBI. Teammates included Hal Breeden, Mike Lum and Bill Robinson. In 1964, he was on the Greenville Braves and batted .247 with 26 RBI and had an On Base % of .394. The next season, he hit .247 with 11 RBI for the West Palm Beach Braves. He missed the 1966 and 1967 seasons due to military service.

Garrett returned to baseball in 1968 with the Greenwood Braves, hitting .303/~.389/.336 as the most-used second baseman. Had he qualified, he would have ranked third in the Western Carolinas League in batting average (he was about 55 plate appearances shy). In 1968, the Braves won the Western Carolinas League championship. Other players on the team included Dusty Baker, Jim Breazeale, Breeden, Bob Didier, Ron Schueler and Earl Williams.

In 1969, Jimmy joined his older brother Adrian on the Shreveport Braves, leading Texas League second basemen in fielding percentage (.979). Charlie hit .213/~.324/.246. While Adrian was leading the league in homers, Jimmy was leading in sacrifice hits (14) and drawing some walks (58) in addition to showing fine glovework. Unfortunately, he was lacking in power and had shown poor contact in AA and it was his last season in professional baseball.
