Biographical Information[edit]

Jason Garrett is the son of Adrian "Smokey" Garrett and the nephew of Wayne Garrett and Charlie Garrett. He played four years in the minor leagues, reaching high class A.

Jason was a 57th-round draft pick of the Atlanta Braves in the 1991 amateur draft but did not sign. As a college senior, he hit .320/?/.536. The Florida Marlins selected him in the 44th round of the 1995 amateur draft.

Garrett made his professional debut with the 1995 Elmira Pioneers, batting .221/~.263/.290 as a DH/1B. The next year, he hit .276/~.343/.391 in 68 games for the Utica Blue Marlins as the starting first baseman. With the 1997 Kane County Cougars, he led the club with 28 doubles. The regular first baseman, he batted .275/~.325/.378. He led the Midwest League with nine sacrifice flies.

In his final season of 1998, playing for the Brevard County Manatees in the Florida State League, Jason was again a 1B/DH and hit .216/~.263/.297 in 101 games.
