Biographical Information[edit]
Pitcher Charlie Corbell was drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the 21st round of the 1983 amateur draft. He was drafted by the New York Mets in the 1986 Rule V Draft, but was returned to the Giants. Corbell reached AAA in 1987, then in March of 1988 was traded to the Oakland A's for struggling A ball pitcher Rod Beck. He pitched a total of 20 games in 1988-1989 in the A's chain, largely at AA before retiring.
Corbell was a college coach for 14 years at Lamar University (1989-1991) and Galveston College (1992-2002), including head coach the last four years.
Moving to the pro ranks, Corbell was a pitching coach in the Montreal Expos/Washington Nationals chain for five seasons, including with the Vermont Expos in 2002, Harrisburg Senators in 2003, New Orleans Zephyrs in 2005, and Potomac Nationals in 2006 before moving to the Florida Marlins organization. He was the pitching coach for the Jamestown Jammers in 2007-2008 and the Greensboro Grasshoppers in 2009-2010. Corbell moved up to the New Orleans Zephyrs in 2011-2014. Moving on to the Kansas City Royals' chain, he was pitching coach of the Wilmington Blue Rocks in 2016-2017.
