Biographical Information[edit]

Cedric Shaw pitched in the Texas Rangers system from 1988 to 1993 and in the Montreal Expos system in 1995. He reached Triple-A multiple times, but never ascended to the majors.

He was taken by the Rangers in the 12th round of the 1988 amateur draft, one pick after outfielder Jerry Brooks, and was signed by scouts Bill Schmidt and Doug Gassaway. Perhaps his best campaign was 1989, when he went 10-6 with 4 complete games and 3 shutouts in 25 games (24 starts) for the Port Charlotte Rangers. On April 18, 1991, while with the Tulsa Drillers, he was the starting pitcher in a no-hitter against the Arkansas Travelers. He was eventually relieved by Everett Cunningham, who was relieved by Barry Manuel. In 1992, he reached Triple-A for the first time, spending part of the season there; in 13 games (10 starts) for the Oklahoma City 89ers, he went 2-5 with a 5.59 ERA. He returned with Oklahoma City in 1993, but had a 7.91 mark in 28 games (5 starts).

Overall, Shaw went 43-38 with a 4.18 ERA in 146 game (110 starts); in 675 2/3 innings, he allowed 676 hits and 314 walks (1.465 WHIP), while striking out 468 batters. At Triple-A, he went 4-11 with a 6.71 ERA in 41 games (15 starts; his WHIP was 1.868.
