We're in an interesting period right. Minor league coaching staffs (staves?) are growing at the moment, from the usual Manager/hitting/pitching. I'm not sure, but it seems the Yankees were the trend setter here in adding a third coach. --Jeff 23:46, 30 September 2010 (EDT)

At the higher levels its usually a bench coach or infield coach. At the lower levels it seems to usually be a young Latin American coach that just recently retired. Probably as much of support system for young players that are in a foreign country with a foreign language as anything else. --Jeff 14:55, 1 October 2010 (EDT)

I've been adding coaching assignments to various coaches pages for a few years now. This year I decided to try to add that info back onto the team pages. But there are three different formats in use. I'd like to standardize it. There's coaches in the table (i.e. Bowling Green Hot Rods), coaches separated by position (i.e. Eugene Emeralds), and coaches separated by year which I started copying (i.e. Batavia Muckdogs). With the minor league season canceled is it appropriate to list the 2020 assignments on the various coaches' pages? Sure, they were assigned to work a team, but that team never even assembled, let alone took the field. Jeff (talk) 05:47, 6 July 2020 (UTC)

It's valid to note they were named to these positions. Many of them took part in spring training as a result, even if the minor league season was cancelled before it began. As we move forward, we can adjust the wording in their biography, either noting the assignment never materialized, or that it was delayed by a year. Hard to know at this point given there is still major uncertainty over what the minor leagues will look like in 2021. Philippe (talk) 12:03, 6 July 2020 (UTC)

If we do keep them, they definitely need to say something to the effect of "was assigned to", or "was announced as". We know how those announcements change every year before the season even when it is played. Jeff (talk) 15:01, 6 July 2020 (UTC)
