Carroll B. Land

Biographical Information[edit]

Carroll Land began his stint with Point Loma Nazarene University (then Pasadena College) when he began his freshman year at the school in 1953. During his time as a player at Pasadena College, Land was named team MVP twice. In total he would play three years for the baseball team and was the head coach in his last year as a player as well. At the college he would also coach cross country and freshman basketball while also teaching in the kinesiology department. In 1967, he was named athletic director of the school, a position he would hold until his retirement in 1999.

In 1957 Land joined the Marine Corps. He also coached the U.S. Military All-Stars for 16 seasons.

Land would also earn his masters and doctorate degrees from the University of Southern California. Land was also president of the NAIA for a time and worked on the 1984 Olympic Committee. He would also be the kinesiology department chair at Point Loma.

In 1998, the field at Point Loma was named Carroll B. Land Stadium after the longtime head coach. In total, Land held the head coach position at Point Loma from 1961-1999.

Land is ABCA, NAIA, and Point Loma Nazarene Halls of Fame.
