Biographical information[edit]

Carlos Urquiola is a former minor league baseball second baseman/outfielder who played from 1997 to 2001 in the Arizona Diamondbacks and Atlanta Braves farm system.

He began his career with the AZL Diamondbacks in 1997, where he went 0-2 in two games. The following season, he spent time with both the AZL Diamondbacks and South Bend Silver Hawks, hitting a combined .370 in 200 at-bats, with 23 stolen bases and 42 runs scored.

In 1999, Urquiola collected 139 hits in 384 at-bats for a .362 batting average while playing for the Silver Hawks. He also stole 20 bases and scored 66 runs. He hit .225 with 18 hits in 35 games for the Pastora de los Llanos of the Venezuelan Winter League in 1999-2000.

Playing for the High Desert Mavericks and El Paso Diablos in 2000, Urquiola hit a combined .328 with 37 stolen bases and 67 runs scored. With Los Llanos again, he hit .250 with 34 hits, 20 runs scored and 15 RBI in 52 games in the 2000-2001 winter league season.

He played his final season in American affiliated baseball in 2001. Splitting time between the Lancaster JetHawks, Greenville Braves (he wound up in the Braves organization in an unknown transaction) and El Paso Diablos, Urquiola hit .298 with 18 stolen bases and 53 runs scored in 95 games.

Despite having a career .336 minor league average, Urquiola never advanced past Double-A. Overall, he scored 122 runs and stole 99 bases in his career. He did not hit a single home run.

Urquiola spent some time in the Venezuelan Winter League, Canadian Baseball League and the Serie A1 in Italy after his affiliated American minor league career was over. In 2001-2002 with Los Llanos, he hit .307 with 13 stolen bases and 23 RBI. In 2003 with the Saskatoon Legends of the CBL, he hit .375 with 13 stolen bases. In 2002-2003, he hit .174 in 46 at-bats for Los Llanos. Back in the VWL in 2003-2004, Urquiola hit .273 in 33 at-bats. In 2004-2005, he hit .182 in 11 at-bats. In 2005, while playing for Parma in the Serie A1, he hit .304 in 207 at-bats. He hit .288 in 59 winter league at-bats in 2005-2006.

Although Urquiola was reported to have been born on April 22, 1980, it was found out that he was actually born on April 22, 1978.
