Biographical Information[edit]

Carlos Rivera pitched in the minor leagues, NPB and CPBL.

Rivera was signed by the California Angels in 1989, and he had a 5.44 ERA in 18 games with the AZL Angels. He was 4-3 with a 4.19 ERA in AZL in 1991, and he joined the Hiroshima Carp's Baseball Academy in Dominican Republic. Rivera debuted with the Carp in 1994, but he only pitched 2 games with a 7.71 ERA. The Carp then sent him to the China Times Eagles in 1995, and he was 11-10 with a 3.33 ERA. He led the league with 26 starts, ranking 6th in wins (9 behind Chin-Hsing Kuo) and 2nd in strikeouts (35 behind Jose Nunez). Rivera was also selected into the 1995 CPBL All-Star Game, but he allowed a run in a inning.

The Dominican attended the 1996 CPBL All-Star Game, but he surrendered 2 runs in a inning this time. He was still a solid starter in 1996, having a 14-4 record with a 3.83 ERA. Rivera ranked 3rd in wins (tied with Don August) and 9th in strikeouts (tied with Chun-Liang Wu). Rivera pitched for the Guerreros de Oaxaca in 1997 (going 0-1 with a 7.24 ERA), and the Uni-President Lions signed him in 1998. He had a 12-4 record with a 2.72 ERA, ranking 5th in wins (tied with Kevin Henthorne) and Todd Revenig), 5th in ERA (between Lino Rivera and Chang-Heng Hsieh) and 9th in strikeouts (between Gino Caruso and Tim Fortugno). Rivera announced his retirement after the 1998 season, and he became a taxi driver.

Overall, Rivera was 37-18 with a 3.29 ERA, struck out 345 and pitched 498 innings in 3 seasons in the CPBL.
