Biographical Information[edit]
Carlos Castillo played in the minor leagues and the Taiwan Major League.
Castillo was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 41st round of the 1991 Amateur Draft, and he went 5-3 with a 3.88 for the Yakima Bears in his first season, striking out 59 in 51 innings. He was 1-1 with two saves and a 3.88 ERA for the Visalia Oaks in 1992, and he also pitched 9 games for the Bakersfield Dodgers. Castillo then left the Dodgers chain, and he went 11-5 with a 3.41 ERA for the independent Alexandria Aces in 1994. He was 4th in the Texas-Louisiana League in wins and ERA and led with 140strikeouts, 12 ahead of former big leaguer Alan Newman.
The California Angels signed him in 1995, and Castillo notched 32 saves with a solid 2.41 ERA in 52 games for the Lake Elsinore Storm. He led Angels farmhands in saves (four ahead of Mike Freehill) and led the California League as well (10 ahead of Doug Webb and Dean Crow). He was 4th in the affiliated minors, behind Brandon Reed, Steve Montgomery and Joe Jacobsen. He joined Webb, Matt Beaumont and Keith Foulke as the league's All-Star pitchers. He collected 13 saves with a 3.68 ERA in 27 games in 1996 for the Storm, and he also pitched 25 games with a 4.26 ERA for the Midland Angels. He was 4th in the Angels system in appearances (between Brian Scutero and Jason Hill) and 3rd in saves (after Jeff Schmidt and Freehill). The Chianan Luka signed him in 1997, but Castillo's ERA was 7.10 in 6 games and he was released in June. He then went 2-1 with a save and a 2.70 ERA for the Midland Angels in 1998, and his professional career ended.
The California native had gone 25-17 with 51 saves and a 3.62 ERA in 189 games as a pro.
