Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Brandon Reed played in the minor leagues from 1994 to 2002, pitching in the Detroit Tigers (1994-2000) and New York Yankees (2001) systems and in independent ball (2002). He spent four full seasons (1998-2001) at Triple-A, but never reached the major leagues. He was taken by the Tigers in the 45th round of the 1993 amateur draft, ahead of future major leaguers Frank Menechino and Bob Howry.

After a ho-hum initial campaign, he exploded with a 41-save, 0.97 ERA campaign for the Fayetteville Generals in 1995. In 55 appearances that year, he finished 53 games, averaged 10.9 K/9 IP and posted a WHIP of 0.897. On August 18, he participated in a no-hitter against the Capital City Bombers; the game was started by Brian Powell, who was replaced by Jeff Siler, who was followed by Adam Housley, who Reed replaced. Hurt for much of 1996, he was 1-0 with a 1.93 ERA in 8 games (4 starts) between two clubs. Moving to the rotation for 1997, he won 11 games in 27 starts, but posted an elevated ERA of 4.55. The next year, his first at Triple-A, he was 5-7, 5.98 in 39 games (17 starts) for the Toledo Mud Hens. He finished his Triple-A career with a 21-20, 4.28 line in 152 games (27 starts) and overall, he went 45-38, 4.40 in 278 games (81 starts). In 740 1/3 innings, he allowed 795 hits and 230 walks (1.385 WHIP), while striking out 531 batters.

He also pitched successfully in the Australian Baseball League, going 9-6 with a 3.33 ERA for the Brisbane Bandits in the 1996-1997 ABL. He was .03 behind ERA leader David Spykstra, was second to Phil Dale in IP and tied Dale for the win lead, but Kevin Millwood beat him out for Pitcher of the Year.
