Biographical Information

Brian Powell pitched six seasons in the major leagues for four different teams. He pitched one game each with the Houston Astros in 2001 and the San Francisco Giants in 2003, both of which won their division.

He was at the University of Georgia at the same time as Chris Stowers. Powell was a second-round pick by the Detroit Tigers in the 1995 amateur draft and went 6-1 with two minor league teams in 1995. Moving up the system, he was 10-2 with two teams in 1998 and made his major league debut in June 1998. Brian spent part or all of 1999-2001 and 2005 with the New Orleans Zephyrs.

He allowed 16 baserunners and 10 runs in 6 2/3 innings in the 1994 Baseball World Cup as one of Team USA's worst performers.

Powell died in 2009 at age 35 of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
