Biographical Information

Pitcher Matt Beaumont was selected by the Houston Astros in the 74th round of the 1991 amateur draft but did not sign, opting to attend Ohio State University instead. In the 1993 Intercontinental Cup, he allowed two runs in 6 1/3 innings in a no-decision for Team USA (the Silver Medal winners) against Nicaragua. As a junior at OSU, he went 11-1, led the Big Ten Conference with 104 strikeouts, and was honored as an All-American and Big Ten Pitcher of the Year. He was then chosen by the California Angels in the fourth round of the 1994 amateur draft and made his pro debut that summer with the Boise Hawks. He won a California League-high 16 games for the Lake Elsinore Storm in 1995, and with the Midland Angels in 1996, he went 7-16 with a 5.85 ERA but led the Texas League with 132 strikeouts.

After six seasons in the Angels chain, Beaumont moved on to the Chicago White Sox organization in 2001. He only appeared in 4 games for the Birmingham Barons that year, but on April 5th, he combined with Mike Porzio and Brian Tokarse to throw a no-hitter against the Tennessee Smokies.
