Biographical Information[edit]

Number 14 Butch Alberts appeared in 6 games for the Toronto Blue Jays at the age of 28 in September 1978, hitting .278 as a designated hitter. Alberts was a star at Gettysburg High School and went to the University of Cincinnati from 1969 to 1972. He was selected in the 28th round of the 1972 amateur draft by the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Pirates released him before the 1974 season and the California Angels signed him. Later, they traded him to the Blue Jays, with Pat Kelly, for Ron Fairly in December 1977. In 1975, he led the Texas League in batting with a .342 average. In 1976, he was hitting .320 with the El Paso Diablos when he was moved up to Salt Lake City Gulls, where he hit .306. In 1977, with Salt Lake City, he hit 27 home runs. He played with Mexicali in the Mexican Pacific League after that. He played third base, first base, and outfield in the minors.
