Biographical Information

After attending Dunedin High School, first baseman Brian Dopirak was selected by the Chicago Cubs in the second round of the 2002 amateur draft. He was signed by scout Tom Shafer and made his pro debut that summer with the AZL Cubs, hitting .253 in 21 games. He began the 2003 campaign with the Boise Hawks, where he hit .240 with 13 home runs to earn a spot on the Northwest League All-Star team. Promoted to the Lansing Lugnuts late in the year, he hit .269 in 19 games. Back with the Lugnuts in 2004, he hit .307 with 39 homers and 120 RBI en route to being named Midwest League MVP.

Dopirak spent the entire 2005 season with the Daytona Cubs and batted .235 with 26 doubles, 16 home runs and 76 RBI in 132 games. The next summer, he hit .257 in 52 games for the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx before being sidelined for the remainder of the year by a broken foot. He began 2007 with the Tennessee Smokies but hit just .218 with 1 homer in 21 games with the club before being sent down to Daytona in May. He put up better numbers for them, hitting .277 with 17 homers and 64 RBI in 94 games.

Dopirak was released by the Cubs prior to the 2008 season and signed with the Toronto Blue Jays organization. He started the year in the same town where he attended high school, with the Dunedin Blue Jays, and hit .308 with 27 home runs and 88 RBI for the club. In August, he was promoted to the AA New Hampshire Fisher Cats and hit .287 in 22 games. He split 2009 between New Hampshire and the AAA Las Vegas 51s, hitting .317 with 27 home runs and 102 RBI between the two clubs. He played for the 51s in 2010, hitting .274 with 11 home runs and 53 RBI. He wrapped up his career in 2011, hitting .252 with six home runs and 17 RBI in 57 games for the Oklahoma City RedHawks in the Houston Astros system.

Overall, he hit .279 with 162 home runs and 613 RBI in 10 seasons.
