Biographical Information[edit]
Brent Miller made it to AAA.
Miller was taken by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 44th round of the 1988 amateur draft out of high school, one round after Garey Ingram, but did not sign. After junior college, he was picked by the Baltimore Orioles in the 19th round of the 1990 amateur draft.
He split a solid pro debut season between the Bluefield Orioles (.325/.357/.684, 10 HR, 28 RBI in 32 G) and Wausau Timbers (.301/.322/.422 in 19 G). He tied for 5th in the Appalachian League in dingers despite playing about half the season there. In 1991, he was with the Kane County Cougars (.286/.312/.461 in 87 G) and Frederick Keys (.257/.282/.514, 10 HR, 31 RBI in 37 G). For the year, he had 29 doubles, 19 home runs and 81 RBI though a .302 OBP was limiting. He tied Paul Carey for second in the O's chain in doubles, was second in home runs (one shy of Chito Martinez), was third in RBI (trailing Ken Shamburg and Benny Distefano) and led with 218 total bases (19 ahead of Damon Buford).
In 1992, he produced at a .259/.293/.355 clip for the Hagerstown Suns, with 28 doubles but his home run total fell off (4). He was 4th in the Eastern League in two-baggers and 4th in the Orioles system (between Mel Wearing and Buford). With the 1993 Bowie Baysox, he hit .257/.291/.371 with 11 home runs, 19 walks and 66 RBI. He was still 8th among Baltimore farmhands in RBI. He ended his career in 1994 with the Baysox (.297/.366/.465 in 53 G) and AAA Rochester Red Wings (0 for 3).
Overall, he had batted .273/.308/.429 in 469 games in the minors, with 199 runs and 262 RBI. He had more doubles (99) than walks (89) and drilled 50 home runs. He stole 23 bases in 33 tries and fielded .986 at 1B.
