Biographical Information[edit]

Corner infielder Brent Metheny spent a few years in the affiliated minors, but really shined in independent ball. He played from 2003 to 2011.

He was signed by the Seattle Mariners as an undrafted free agent in 2003, hitting .304/.388/.437 in 48 games between two clubs. After posting an average near the Mendoza line in 2004, the Mariners let him go. Joining the independent Mid-Missouri Mavericks to finish the campaign, Metheny performed well, but really broke out in 2005. That year, he slashed .336/.427/.524 with 12 home runs, 77 RBI, 15 stolen bases and 74 runs scored for Mid-Missouri. In 2006, he joined the Chicago White Sox system, but spent just a year there before returning to the indy circuit. Between the Winnipeg Goldeyes and Camden Riversharks in 2007, he hit .296/.401/.546 with 21 home runs, 71 RBI and 17 stolen bases in 97 games. Back with Winnipeg in 2008, he hit .357/.453/.557 with 10 home runs, 57 RBI and 25 stolen bases in 79 games. After a down year with Winnipeg in 2009, he joined the Calgary Vipers in 2010 to hit .313/.408/.559 with 13 home runs, 56 RBI and 20 stolen bases in 67 games. In 2011, he hit .325/.420/.533 with 10 home runs, 76 RBI and 21 steals for the Edmonton Capitals to wrap up his career.

Overall, Metheny spent part or all of three seasons in the affiliated minors, hitting .269/.358/.391 in 132 games. In seven indy ball seasons, he hit .310/.402/.517 with 84 home runs, 427 RBI and 121 steals in 566 games. In total, he batted .303/.394/.495 with 90 home runs, 488 RBI and 133 stolen bases in 698 games.

He managed the Frontier Greys to a 40-55 record in 2013 and in 2014, he was the hitting coach for the Sioux City Explorers. He managed the Sussex County Miners for the latter part of the 2015 season, replacing Steve Shirley.
