Biographical Information[edit]
Tall righthanded pitcher Brandon Williamson was drafted by the Seattle Mariners in the second round of the 2019 amateur draft, out of Texas Christian University. It was his second time being drafted, as he had been a 36th round selection in 2018, by the Milwaukee Brewers, out of junior college.
Born and raised in Minnesota, he made his professional debut with the Everett AquaSox of the Northwest League in 2019, pitching 15 1/3 innings even though 9 of his 10 appearances on the mound were starts. He had no decisions and an ERA of 2.35. He then had to wait until 2021 to pitch in a competitive game again, as the minor leagues were shit down in 2020 due to the Coronavirus pandemic. He made his return again with Everett, which had by then been promoted to the High-A West by the Minor League Reorganization. He went 2-1, 3.19 in 6 starts, then was promoted to the Arkansas Travelers of the Double-A Central. There he made another 13 starts and went 2-5, 3.48. Altogether, he picthed 98 1/3 innings and accumulated an impressive 153 strikeouts.
On March 14, 2022, he was traded to the Cincinnati Reds along with Justin Dunn, Jake Fraley and a player to be named later (P Connor Phillips) in return for two established major leaguers, 3B Eugenio Suarez and OF Jesse Winker. He split the 2022 season between the AA Chattanooga Lookouts and AAA Louisville Bats, going a combined 6-7, 4.11 in 27 starts. He made his major league debut with the Reds one year and two months after the trade, on May 16, 2023, as the starting pitcher against the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field. He gave up 1 run in 5 2/3 innings but was not involved in the decision as the Reds won, 3-1. He had started the year at Louisville and was 2-4, 6.62 after 8 starts there.
