Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Brad Peacock made his major league debut with the Washington Nationals in September of 2011, after an outstanding season with the AA Harrisburg Senators.

Peacock was taken by the Nationals as a draft-and-follow pick in the 41st round out of high school in the 2006 amateur draft. After a year of junior college, he was signed by scout Tony Arango and made his professional debut in 2007 with the GCL Nationals. He was 1-1, 3.89 in 13 games. He had a tough year in 2008, ending 4-12, 4.89 after splitting the season between the Vermont Lake Monsters and Hagerstown Suns. In 2009, he improved to 8-11, 4.14 between Hagerstown and the Potomac Cannons. He again split his 2012 season between two teams, this time Potomac and the AA Senators, with a record of 6-11, 4.50. While his results up to that point were not overwhelming at first glance, he had established himself as a reliable starter in AA by age 22, eating a lot of innings with a good strikeout rate. In 2011, he took a huge step forward, as he went 10-2, 2.01 in 16 games for Harrisburg before earning a promotion to the AAA Syracuse Chiefs. He continued to pitch well in the International League, to the tune of a 5-1 record and a 3.19 ERA in 9 games, giving him a sparkling overall record of 15-3, 2.39 for the year. He was twice selected as the Eastern League pitcher of the week, played in the 2011 Futures Game and was the Eastern League Pitcher of the Year, while making a slew of post-season minor league All-Star teams.

Peacock made his major league debut with the Nationals on September 6, 2011. In 3 games, he made 2 starts, pitched 12 innings and went 2-0 with an 0.75 ERA to cap a break-out season. The Nats did not want to overuse him in the majors, as he had already almost pitched 150 innings in the minors on the year. Now clearly one of the brightest prospects in the organization, he was packaged in a trade for All-Star P Gio Gonzalez on December 22nd, going to the Oakland Athletics in addition to fellow young Ps Tom Milone and A.J. Cole and C Derek Norris. he spent all of 2012 in the A's organization, but never pitched for them in the majors. On February 4, 2013, he was involved in a second major trade, heading to the Houston Astros with Chris Carter and Max Stassi for Jed Lowrie and Fernando Rodriguez.

With Houston, Peacock pitched at least one game each season between 2013 and 2016 but without much success. Things turned around for him when he learned to throw a new type of slider taught to him by minor league teammate Jordan Jankowski during that last season. Suddenly, he turned into a dominant pitcher and when he returned to the Astros in 2017, he was a changed man. He won 8 of his first 9 decisions with over 12 strikeouts per 9 innings.
