Biographical Information

Jordan Jankowski was named the 2008 Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Player of the Year for baseball in southwestern Pennsylvania after hitting .540 and going 6-1 with a 2.00 ERA and 73 K in 49 IP (as per the Post-Gazette; the Miami of Ohio website lists a lower ERA, higher average and more strikeouts). He hit 36 home runs in high school, believed to be the record for the Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League.

Jankowski was picked by the Houston Astros in the 34th round of the 2008 amateur draft. He opted for college. As a freshman at Miami University, he hit .200/.259/.240 as a third-string catcher. He improved to .287/.354/.524 with 8 home runs as a sophomore and also had a 3-3, 4.28 record with 10 saves and 40 K in 33 2/3 IP as a closer. He was second in the Mid-American Conference in saves. Transferring to Catawba College, he went 8-2 with a 2.95 ERA, 118 K in 97 2/3 IP and a .227 opponent average as a junior. His senior year, he turned in a 9-2, 3.79 record with 126 whiffs in 90 1/3 innings and was South Atlantic Conference Co-Pitcher of the Year. The Astros again took him in the 34th round, this time in the 2012 amateur draft.

Assigned to the Greeneville Astros, he went 3-0 with 21 strikeouts in 12 2/3 IP and a 3.55 ERA in his first 8 games as a pro.

Though they were born just 2 years and 250 miles apart, in the same state, and played in the majors at the same time -- while owning a relatively rare surname -- Jordan and contemporary Travis Jankowski do not appear to be related.
